"Women in Construction FNQ is an Incorporated Not for Profit organisation providing Educational Events to the Cairns Construction & associated industries each year.
Women in Construction FNQ started in 2014 and we became Incorporated in 2019.
We have approximately 7 events throughout the year. 2019 events were Cairns Regional Council - CPAC Tour, Cairns Hardware Truss Shop and Bathroom Fixtures, Plus What's New, QFES Fire rating / inspection of Fire Station, Prime Flynn Site Inspection, Keir Qld Spin al Life Centre Inspection and MiHaven 6-8 Denbeigh Street Inspection) and finally a Christmas Lunch at Dundee’s on the Waterfront (including a successful hard hat competition).
Unfortunately in 2020 and due to COVID-19 restrictions we have only held 1 event at the Cairns Innovation Centre at the James Cook University.
The Committee also supported Student Expo at Fred Moulle Pavilion, Schooltech Woree State School and Cairns High (Years 11-12) promoting working within the construction industry.
In 2016 Women in Construction FNQ took over Gratitude Gift Boxes (collecting for Ruth's Women’s Shelter) and in 2019 introduced collecting for our male friends in construction Bolts & Nuts Gift Boxes (collecting for Anglicare) this is very rewarding.
We also support Cancer Council Queensland and run a fundraiser yearly. Our 2019 raffle raised $1,880 with a total raised of $3,760 with double matching of this fundraiser from Suncorp.
Members include QBCC Licensed Builders, Owners of Construction businesses, Architects, Project Managers, Contract Administrators, Administrators and Associate Members are anyone that is interested in construction (real estate, financiers, students)."
